Tips for interesting Parisian spots? I

I will be living and studying in Paris for a quarter starting this January. Apart from the obvious big-name tourist spots, I'm hoping to find some interesting places in the city. Libraries, the flea markets, and used book shops are already on my list. Any ideas for specific venues that might be similarly tucked away, but worth checking out?

Also, ideas for moderately priced but memorable cafs or restaurants would be perfect! Local or electronic music nightspots would be fantastic as well. Thanks.

Considering you're identified as a "Top Contributor" I can only assume this is a joke. Whether it's a joke or not, my answer is the same: additional education *might* help.

Cheap Place to eat Dinner?

im on a very limited budget.

The market? I love to get food at the markets and picnic. Or the Grocery stores...granted, you have to go to several stores to get a meal, but at least they are generally grouped close to each other.

there are many Creperies...they have excellent crepes and the prices are usually resonable and there are so many options on what your crepe can be filled with

My bird sleeps on the bottom of the cage, why?

Everytime I uncover him in the morning he is on the bottom of the cage. It doesn't seem like a logical place for a bird to sleep. Is this normal? Why is he doing this?

maybe the bird finds it comfortable to sit there

What is the average amount of money that is paid for french food items in France?

I would like to know whats the average price in US currency for a breakfast item, a lunch item, a dinner item, a dessert item, a drink, a glass of wine, a appetizer, and a specialty item. 10 points goes to whomever answers the entire question.

well having traveled to Paris, I can answer these items for you.

Breakfast is not a big thing in Europe. People usually have cappuccino or some type of a coffee drink or OJ and croissant. Their croissant's are amazing and small. Europeans have small meals. Breakfast as mentioned above for two usually costs 15 to 30 Euro's (approx. $17 to $38.00)depending on if you are at a tourist trap location also depending if you are sitting or standing. If you stand by the counter and eat, it's cheaper. It's always more costly to sit and eat :) A single cappuccino could cost about 5 Euro's (approx$6.50) if you stand.

Lunch can range from sandwiches 7Euro ($8.50) per person to a nice sit down (for two persons) pasta meal or chicken etc.. 30 Euros to 100 Euros. (approx. $35. to $110) Dinner the same. Everything depends on the type of meal you have, the location. I hope this helped! Europe over all is expensive especially because the dollar value is low!

Boeuf bourguignon in Paris?

Could you please recommend places in Paris for good and authentic boeuf bourguignon.

I was at one of the cafes in front of Jardin de Luxembourg and ordered this and saw through the mirror reflection that the cook in the kitchen was opening a can of boeuf bourguignon then heated it up.

Kinda reminded me of the scene from European Vacation with Chevy Chase!

Life in France......?

Do you think living in France is good

and yess

its such a happy laid back feeling compared to the US

i love everything about the lifestyle there :D

Will i ever visit France?

Do you believe i will ever see the great city of Nice

How do you like the Ketchup at McDonald

mmm

A Montmartre restaurant...?

Does anyone know the name of a Montmartre restaurant that serves these amazing salads with fried potatoes on top? It's a little casual place with some outdoor seating, two floors, and a small bar... but I don't remember the name of it! I think there's a male name in it...

It's called Le Relais Gascon. Great salads, isn't it?

So can you tell me what you think about this?

I had a very interesting conversation with my mom's sister when I talked to her yesterday,

I wanted her to explain to me the clairvoyance thing again, I know what it means, sort of, but I am still learning it, I know I do it but don't know why!

So she told me that a lot of people have this ability, but they usually lose it at an early age,

one reason is that it was not strong enough to take hold in their spiritual awareness,

another reason is that the materialistic takes over, and occupies the mystic part in the mind of children and obscures it!

Like hundreds years ago, or even less, there was not the material consciousness that exists now, like no video games, cellphones, definitely no TV, no high rises, none of the stuff which we have to live with today, which it being the communication and materialistic age!

So People were in touch with their higher conscientiousness, like they had a link, to the grander scheme of things, like those astronomers knowing the constellation of stars and their meaning, without any instrument but their minds!

or being able to time travel in the future and have visions of what occurs there, like Nostradamus drawing the towers and their fall, and he was drawing sky scrapers

and futuristic cities, and that book with no writing, just empty pages, and the Mayans stopping with the time calenders in 2012.....

So probably Nostradamus did Astral traveling, which means the soul leaves the body and goes to whatever dimension it wants !

So in Norway, people living a more spiritual life, are much more connected to nature,

and the universe and they draw their power from there, where most people here in the US try to draw their power from material things, that is why their Spirit is empty.

My sister used to have it also, but she was scared to explore it, where to me I love Mystic,

that is why I am not scared, because I see the Universe as living and full of purpose, like a great mystical machinery,

and where some people just love their car and how it looks and how it performs,

that is how I love the universe, because it govens all life and Earth and on all other planets,

and when it has a certain constellation, like it will have in 2012,

there will be a major shift, I think it will be the beginning of the Spiritual Age, the Age of Aquarius,

That is what my aunt believes, a New Age, could be that those who survive will go back to living the Natural Way!

So this means we are leaving the Material Age behind and entering Spiritual Science!

It could also be the return of Jesus, or we might get a message from another intelligence,

but it will probably be the end of the world as we know it,

which is so OK with me, because this world needs a shift, but I think a lot of people will perish, because they are not going to get it, they are to caught up in their material illusions!

So maybe what I know how to do, will be a normal thing people can do, it being a Spiritual Science, it being already part of the New Age, where people have active communications with

Higher intelligence, and that way able to navigate from what is false and what is true!

it is like when for instance when you write me, I go beyond the words and pick up like what is really happening, and what you really do, when it is not masked by the words, so that is why when I saw your @Answers in Religion I knew it was fake, and that person was not living those words!

That is why it used to make me mad and I told you that a long time ago,

but I never get the whole picture, just my reaction to what I would feel if I knew the truth!

So that is what happens when I look at that picture of you in the suit at the wedding,

I see something, something else, sort of like a guy surrounded by lots of women,

which clashes with what you tell me of yourself!

Like a guy walking with a cane, going on disability, I sense something else, like when I look at that picture, it was the same as when I looked at your @A in Religion, something .....New Age,

I am actually glad that you are a normal guy, having a girlfriend in your past, going to the mall,

getting into issues with your family,

which Is good, but why the drama,? Of having me and my sister think you had all those phobias, were losing your memory, and slowly sliding out of your existence!

Were you said that you feared you would not remember me and you had to write me down on paper!

And that was in the days when your grammar was bad and I could hardly read what you wrote, but I knew what you were saying!

But now, the upside is that your grammar and spelling has really improved big time,

I have no problem understanding what you are saying, your spelling is pretty decent,

and you seem more like a interesting person, because you actually understand what they are saying on those programs!

So that is a big switch from the person from a couple of month ago,

when I really felt there was no use continuing even writing to you!

So that

no time to read it. too long.

What do you think of this is kind of new?

Hi

I have been meaning to ask you, what is chatting, ....

my sister does not know, and somehow I get all these e mail people asking if I want to chat,

I wonder how do they get my e-mail, or ask me to add them to my chat?

It must be coming from Yahoo, because that e-mail is attached to my Yahoo A, profile

this e-mail here I am writing from is not attached to Answers, I thought I better play it safe, in case I get my e-mail suspended, because of violations, because sometimes I don't care, I just want to say what I want, !

So I also did not know that Yahoo A was a social scene, were people were wanting to get to know others!

I have this one political blog, it is different than Answers, the people are older, but it takes up so much time, I guess that is a form of chatting, but in truth I am not into talking on the internet much,

So anyway I think you are more learned when it comes to things like that, so I thought, also what does IM mean, I get people asking me if they can IM me,, which I don't, I am way behind on Answers,

and I don't want to talk to people about stuff where I have no interest!

This afternoon I watched 6 episodes of "A Haunting, " I usually never watch those haunting' s on TV

because half the time I felt were they were stories, there seemed to be that "something" missing,

like it was kind of flat!

But these were pretty good, and 2 were excellent, so it was nice just hanging out at home for a bit, but I

would get totally bored, if I had to do that anymore, just laying around so I understand what you were saying about getting depressed from boredom!

But I am wondering what purpose it would serve, to tell people stuff which has no credibility at all,

and not even good stuff, but things like maybe getting Altzmeters, and other weird illnesses, or saying girls wanted nothing to do with you, or being cooped up in the mental loony bin, where you had to escape, that was funny!

I was cleaning up my e-mail and deleting a lot of old stuff, when I came across those e-mails from you from the summer, and I remember thinking you had a mental problem because you went to kill yourself with a knife, you were going to stab yourself in the chest,!

I never did believe that, because people, usually shoot themselves or hang themselves, but I don't think it is possible to stab yourself, I never heard that!

but you made it sound so dreadful, and I thought if I don't write you back, you would die,OMG,

I actually did believe that sort of, and I did not want to be responsible for your death!

Can you explain the purpose of those?

I just want to understand that, like I want to get into the mind of someone who would write that, for what purpose?

I am sometimes writing with other guys, but we write about what we want to do with our lives, about the day to day happenings, our thoughts, supernatural stuff, academic stuff, or technology, or what attracts us to other people, but never those things!

Maybe your talent lies in writing fiction, maybe you should write a book, about a severely disturbed

teen, and how he meets this girl who he thinks of as an Angel who came from another place to save him,

like the Angel from the Past, it is to bad you wiped that out on the profile you made for me, that showed some talent, that story, it was so sad, .......

but I never really believed to much of it, but it was somewhat entertaining!

And then he falls in love with this girl, he realizes how his feelings are changing into something profound,

and then that changes him to become a better and productive person!

Honest that is a pretty good story, and pretty amazing, but the Question remains.....

Why!

Honestly, I like that you have a good imagination, and can come up with that stuff, but I am wondering if the guy with the cane and the hip problem and the social programs is not another piece of fiction, ....

Don't answer that, because if it is not, my detecting mind, will detect it!

Just so you know,

And what do you mean I spoke Swedish with you, when did I do that, ?

I don't even know one Swedish word!

so did you get me mixed up with another girl?

And why would a guy say that girls wanted nothing to do with him, in school and now you say the girls loved you with all your problems yet!

And why did you want me and Li to believe you had those memory losses, you got to tell me a reason,

because I want to understand !

Anyway in those suit pic, you look slick, like if somebody showed me the pic's I would say Yes that guy looks nice, but he looks like trouble, not sincere, !

Expect the one where you have your arms crossed, I like that picture,

But also I see where honesty is so important in relationships, how damaging lies are, not that I am planning on lying to anyone, but now I am xtra careful, to not spin any stories!

Because sometimes when somebody asks me to go out, I do tell them a story, like I have plans, when I don't, because I realize that the worst sins ar

I like this. I like you ;-)

I don't know I think I liked it because it was interesting and last night I was drinking cough syrup (yuck) and then I felt really dizzy and had to drive to the bookstore and it was just so bad and I felt bad about myself for being that kind of person that would do that.

Tonight I'm going to go to bed and read some more of this Stephen King novel it's alright not his best but I do enjoy him do you like him?

Maybe it's not me it's you.

How much is it to it on top of the effel tower?

i need help

It is 1,063 feet high.

How much is it to eat on top of the effiel tower?

i need help

i have no idea

Google.

Yes, there IS a restaurant on the Eiffel Tower, and I believe it is on the 2me tage. And there are THREE levels of the Tower. You can walk to the second for less than the elevator, but you must take the elevator to the 3me.

But if you google it, you will find the information. I'm sure you can even get a copy of the menu, so you can get an idea.

I don't think I saw a restaurant up there. In fact, there are two levels that allow the public and the upper level is a little more than halfway up.

There is a restaurant on an upper floor of the Eiffel Tower at the Paris casino in Las Vegas

in english when you mention someone's name, you can put THIS, THAT, and THE in front of it. Can you do that in french.

ex-Im not talking about THE George Washington with white hair.

in french, do you put LE or LA in front of names too, whe youre trying to specify something

Why not try posting this question on the french yahoo. You may get the answer you want. Just post it exactly as is. I did this and got a reply in English for a question I had about language. Also, I wouldn't put it in the dining out section.

Where to eat lunch in Paris, Christmas week?

I'll be there just for a day trip (from London) and want a very authentic Parisian meal, no tourists. I won't have time to travel far fom the center of things, and may have a teen girl with me. No Guide Michelin Three Stars, please!

These are small bistros which generally have a small three to five-course menu ranging from 25-35?and a reasonably priced wine list.

Lntredgeu

83 Rue Laugier 75017 M: Porte de Champerret (01 40 54 97 24)

My current favorite. The chef has a good pedigree, and is cooking up a storm for just 28?for dinner. The cooking here is hearty and delicious, and with a finesse that separates them from the rest of the field. The room is cramped but very cheerful and charming. One of the best price/value rapport in the city.

Lurcine

92, rue Broca 75013 Paris (01 47 07 13 65)

A delicious new bistro, overseen by Yves Camdeborde of La Rgalade fame. Very cute little space, run by a very agreeable African lady who speaks perfect English.

Ls Moelle

3, Rue Vasco de Gama 75015 M: Lourmel (01 45 57 27 27)

My parennial favorite. The chef is a Constant protg. The menu here is still very refined, with at least 5 courses, each complex in its simplicity. They are on the higher price end of this group, with the dinner menu at 38? but worth every penny.

Le Repaire de Cartouche

8, boulevard des filles du calvaire 75011 M:St Sebastien Froissard (01 47 00 25 86)

Here is another Constant protg, in a space that looks like it could be an old hunting lodge. The cooking here is big and bold.

Chez Michel

10, Rue de Belzunce 75010 M: Poissonnire ( 01 44 53 06 20)

Yes, yet another Constant protg, with roots from Brittany which show in the menu. When I am here I always order something from that region, his yummy Kig-ha-farz, a pot au feu of sort, with pork jowls (the Kig bit) and curious doughy dumplings with sweet raisins (that would be the Farz bit). A great spot for a meal before/after the Eurostar.

Lrdoise

28 rue du Mont Thabor 75001 M: Beaubourg/Les Halles (01 42 96 28 18)

An ever popular spot for Anglo gastro tourists, but has managed to not let the quality goes down the drain even with the mainly non-local clientele.

Caf Constant

139, rue Saint-Dominique 75007 (01 47 53 73 34)

The first outgrowth in Christian Constant plan to take over rue Dominique. A simple neighbourhood bistro serving simple and good food. The clientele is a mix between high-rolling Le Figaro readers to local workmen.

Les Fables de la Fontaine

131 rue Saint-Dominique 75007 (01 44 18 37 55)

The newest of Christian Constant places on rue Dominique. This one focuses on fish and seafood. A lovely spot for a deliciously fishy lunch.

Mon Vieil Ami

69 Rue St Louis en l'Ile 75004 M:Cit (01 40 46 01 35)

Another favorite. This is a bistro outpost of the fabulous three-star Le Buerehisel in Strasbourg. The menu is not entirely Alsatian, but gives a nod to the general direction. Also on the higher price end of this scale (dinner menu 38?, and in a more refined -and highly designed- atmosphere than all the others. It is on the charming Ile St.Louis from where you could take a romantic and enchanting walk along the Seine to digest the meal.

Lmi Jean

27, rue Malar 75007 M:Alma Marceau (01 47 05 86 89)

The chef here was once a sous chef at La Rgalade while Yves Camdeborde was still cooking. The menu is very similar to La Rgalade, robust, hearty food. They do very good game (wild meats) during the season.

la biche aux bois

45 Ave Ledru-Rollin 75012 M: Gare de Lyon (01 43 43 34 38)

This place is always packed with locals. The tables are so closed together you think you are eating from a communal table ot that there anything wrong with it. The menu is completely void of pretension, the cooking is perhaps simpler than the others on this list, but no less tasty, and a great value at only 25?

Lvant Gout

26 rue Bobilot 75013 M:Place d'Italie (Auguste Blanqui exit) (01 53 80 24 00)

My friend Mr.Naughton is in love with the incredible 12.50?lunch menu here. You get an entree, plat, a glass of wine, and coffee, all included for the price, the bargain of Paris in my opinion.

La Table de Lucullus

129 rue Legendre 75017 M: La Fourche (01 40 25 02 68)

Clotilde introduced me to this place, a favorite of hers. I've only had foie gras and chocolate here (such a hard life I lead), but they were so lovely as to warrant a mention in this list. The affable young chef Nicolas Vagnon is reportedly a wiz at fish and seafood. His specialty dessert, chocolate saucer with ginger ice cream is a delectable treat.

What to do in Paris France?

i'm wondering is there anything to do in Paris France

Walking around the city, all over the place, is a treat in itself. It is absolutely gorgeous. If you're going, get a good guidebook like frommers or lonely planet, and figure out ahead of time if there are museums or sites you want to see (like going up the Eiffel Tower!)

The food and cafes are awesome too. If you're a club rat there's plenty of that too. You can also go to Jim Morrison's grave if you're a Doors fan. Or tour the catacombs-tunnels under the city-where the bones of 6 million people lay at rest. You can see the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo at the Louvre, or visit the Rodin Museum and see the famous statue The Kiss.

Have a great time if you go. It's a guaranteed awesome place to see.

No. Nothing at all. Most fascinating city in the world, but nothing to do at all. Just sit in your hotel room and rot.
